Broadband
Interesting Links
There has been a lot of controversy regarding the Fibre to the Node and National Broadband Network situation in Australia. These are 2 interesting links from local Vision support services.
Royal Society for the Blind of SA
Vision Australia
These both highlight the requirements that Vision Impaired people will need in the future as technology starts to outweigh printed media.
One interesting but disturbing comment is from the South Australian Royal Blind Society. It asks that the current "Free Post for the Blind" service be scrapped and replaced with a subsidy for Broadband services. To me this could be a major issue for the Older generation of Vision Impaired who are not computer savvy. I believe that the broadband service needs to be an extension to the current post for the blind service rather than a replacement for it.
It will be interesting to see how this develops over the next few months once all the submissions have been read and a decision is made.
